The Pacific Sea Nettle (Chrysaora fuscescens), or West Coast sea nettle, is a common jellyfish that lives in the waters off the West Coasts of North America and Mexico.
Pacific Sea Nettles are the ballerinas of the ocean – colorful and mesmerizing to watch. I first saw them at the Monterey Bay Aquarium during a visit in 2013. Then, during the pandemic, the Monterey Bay Aquarium began to weekly “jellycam” sessions on their Facebook page – so viewers could watch the peaceful jellyfish while listening to soothing music. I found it very inspiring….and after a year of tuning in, have finally created my homage to the beautiful Pacific Sea Nettle.
This collage incorporates hand-painted ephemera, including information about jellyfish, tourist information about San Diego, local maps, star charts of the jellyfish nebula in Gemini, sheet music, shopping lists and recipes.
