Nothing brightens a home like a colorful bouquet. When the skies are grey during the rainy season in San Diego, I head to Trader Joe's for their colorful, affordable bouquets. I like to take 2 or 3 bunches and mix them up into a couple of vases and put them in the studio, the kitchen, the living room -- any room that needs a little added vibrancy for the moment. This bouquet had a ceramic cookie jar vase and a wonderful richness of colors and textures. I couldn't wait to paint it!
This collage painting includes hand-painted ephemera such as local maps, textbook pages, shopping lists and old newspapers. Plants gathered from walks through the neighborhood, such as pink pepper fronds, Brazilian pepper leaves and Mexican marigold leaves were used to make prints which were incorporated as well.
