Less well known than it's nextdoor neighbor, Manoa Falls, 'Aihualama Falls is found within the Lyon Arboretum in the Manoa neighborhood. The water rushes down volcanic rocks and into a small stream. While not as grand as other waterfalls, it has true tropical charm. The real surprise was the presence of tropical irises.  I had no idea they existed before I saw them at the Arboretum.

This collage painting was created using ephemera found during the trip to Honolulu and includes TheBus Schedules, tourist information in Japanese and Korean, take-out menus, sheet music, and local newspaper articles.  I designed and cut the stencils that add layers of texture and color to the paper that is then ripped and glued in place on a wooden panel.
